Iron-peak Element Abundances in Warm Very Metal-poor Stars

چکیده
Abstract We have derived new detailed abundances of Mg, Ca, and the Fe-group elements Sc through Zn ( Z = 21−30) for 37 main-sequence turnoff very metal-poor stars ([Fe/H] ≲−2.1). analyzed Keck HIRES optical near-UV high signal-to-noise spectra originally gathered a Be abundance survey. Using typically ∼400 lines with accurate laboratory transition probabilities each star, we determined LTE metallicities ratios neutral ionized species 10 as well α Mg Ca. find good neutral/ion agreement six that detectable transitions both in our 3100–5800 Å range. Earlier reports correlated Sc−Ti−V relative overabundances are confirmed, appear to slowly increase decreasing metallicity. To this element trio add Zn; it also appears be increasingly overabundant lowest-metallicity regimes. Co mimic behavior Zn, but issues surrounding its reliability cloud interpretation.

Abundances in Very Metal-Poor Stars
Metal-poor stars provide information on the characteristics and chemical evolution of the halo population of the Galaxy, the first epoch of star formation and Galaxy formation (not just locally but with relevance to high-redshift objects), and big bang nucleosynthesis. This review looks at recent developments in this subject.
متن کاملEuropium Isotopic Abundances in Very Metal-poor Stars
Europium isotopic abundance fractions are reported for the very metal-poor, neutron-capture-rich giant stars CS 22892-052, HD 115444, and BD +17◦3248. The abundance fractions, derived from analysis of several strong Eu II lines appearing in high-resolution spectra of these stars, are in excellent agreement with each other and with their values in the Solar System: fr(Eu)≃ fr(Eu) ≃ 0.5. Detailed...
متن کاملLight element abundances in carbon-enhanced metal-poor stars
We model the evolution of the abundances of light elements in carbon-enhanced metalpoor (CEMP) stars, under the assumption that such stars are formed by mass transfer in a binary system. We have modelled the accretion of material ejected by an asymptotic giant branch star on to the surface of a companion star. We then examine three different scenarios: one in which the material is mixed only by...
متن کاملPrompt Iron Enrichment, Two r-Process Components, and Abundances in Very Metal-Poor Stars.
We present a model to explain the wide range of abundances for heavy r-process elements (mass number A>130) at low [Fe/H]. This model requires rapid star formation and/or an initial population of supermassive stars in the earliest condensed clots of matter in order to provide a prompt or initial Fe inventory. Subsequent Fe and r-process enrichment was provided by two types of supernovae: one pr...
متن کاملOxygen Abundances in Metal-poor Stars
We present oxygen abundances derived from both the permitted and forbidden oxygen lines for 55 subgiants and giants with [Fe/H] values between −2.7 and solar with the goal of understanding the discrepancy in the derived abundances. A first attempt, using Teff values from photometric calibrations and surface gravities from luminosities, obtained agreement between the indicators for turn-off star...
